Foundation Secretary Louise RømertThe Carlsberg Foundation owns 22 apartments located in Carlsberg City District. The apartments, which opened in 2016, are rented out to international visiting researchers undertaking research stays at Danish research institutions.
The researcher apartments are located in the south-east corner of Carlsberg City District next to the preserved Hanging Gardens and the former mineral water factory. The apartments border J.C. Jacobsen’s Garden, which is an extension of the Carlsberg Academy and today serves as a public park.
The researcher apartments, situated close to Carlsberg Station, each have two to four rooms.
Who can apply for a researcher apartment?
The researcher apartments are open to applications from international researchers undertaking a research stay at a Danish research institution. The lease period is minimum six months and maximum three years.
In order to be considered, the researcher must be at associate professor level or above and must have direct or indirect ties to a grant from the Carlsberg Foundation.
THE RESEARCHER APARTMENTS’ ARCHITECTURE
The researcher apartments were built for the Carlsberg Foundation by the property development company Carlsberg Byen P/S. The Danish architecture firm Praksis Arkitekter designed the building and apartments, which occupy an area of approx. 3,200 m2 over six floors. The building’s facades are classically proportioned. The apertures, windows and doors, however, are slightly oversized, which gives the building Classical gravitas. The façade’s bright tone shares an affinity with the Carlsberg Academy and emphasises the play of light in the facade, which alternates in appearance – depending on the wind and weather – between soft and sharp, between precise and indistinct.
